The beginning of creativity, copy what you love.

The beginning of creativity, copy what you love.

Copy what you love right now.

Copy and copy, copy and copy.

You will find yourself at the end of those countless copies.

Yohji Yamamoto

No one is born with their own style or tone.

When people come out into the world, they don't even know who they are.

Parents, relatives, acquaintances, books, media, etc. At first, they learn a lot by imitating the heroes they look up to.

We learn by copying.

Copying here is practice, not plagiarism.

If plagiarism is manipulating someone else's work as if it were your own, copying is trying reverse engineering.

It's like disassembling and reassembling a car because you're curious about how it works.

Musicians learn to play instruments while practising scales.

Painters learn to paint by imitating masterpieces.

First, decide who to copy.

And decide what to copy.

Deciding who to copy is easy.

Because I just copy the heroes I love and who inspire me.

Start with one hero, explore and copy all of them.

What to copy is a bit difficult.

You have to steal not just style, but ideas beyond style.

Don't look like heroes.

You have to see them as heroes.

The most important purpose of copying heroes is to peek into their psyche.

By copying their style, you can learn how they see the world.

If the work itself is superficially imitated without an understanding of the purpose of the work, it is no different from theft.

When you become accustomed to mimicking a hero, you need to go beyond that and move on to the stage of imitating.

Imitation is just copying, but imitating is going one step further and creating something unique.

"There are no new moves."

One basketball star says he stole the moves after watching videos of senior heroes.

However, he had a different physical condition, so he had to transform the stolen moves to fit his body.

"To be like the role model I've always dreamed of, failing that gives us a presence and a uniqueness." - Conan O'Brien

Humans have wonderful weaknesses.

It is impossible to create an exact copy.

Each of them reveals their colours at the very point where they cannot be perfectly identical to the heroes they admire.

This is how it evolves.

Copy my hero

Find out what's missing from them.

You have to find your own unique thing that is different from what you can't reach and maximize it.

Imitating the hero does not please them.

They will be delighted when you create their work in their own style.

Adding something to the world that only I can add,

That's the way to become someone's inspiration, starting with a copy.
