Pale blue dot, here we are.
Pale blue dot, here we are.
For 99.9 percent of our lives, humans have been wanderers in the prairies in search of hunting and food.
In the last 10,000 years, humans have given up their wandering life by taming plants and animals. Despite enjoying numerous material benefits through a settled life, humans are insecure and dissatisfied.
Even today, 400 generations after forming a village or city, we still cannot forget the wandering life. This longing may have been crafted into an essential element for us to survive natural selection.
"The constant longing for distant things haunts me. I want to sail into forbidden waters."
- <Moby Dick>, Herman Melville
A passion for exploration and pioneering is a natural trait shared by all human beings. This characteristic made the wanderer look beyond Earth and into space, leading to wandering among the wanderers called planets in 1962.
Humans have expanded our historical perspective to explore the origins of the Earth and ourselves.
A viking robot exploration plan that began in July 1976 learns that life is a rare phenomenon.
Since then, mankind has been constantly launching probes into space, but only the speed of light signals expressed in numbers are returned.
According to the news, the new world did not resemble Earth. Nevertheless, we continue to search for cosmic life. This is inevitable because life seeks another life.
<Pale Blue Dot> is an image of Earth captured by the camera of the space probe Voyager 1, which reached the outer part of the solar system in February 1990. This lonely and wretched appearance of the earth tells us the status we humans occupy in the universe.
Other worlds, what awaits us there?
What will they tell us about ourselves?
Given the pressing problem facing mankind today, should the exploration trip be carried out?
Shall we address urgent issues first? Should we leave because of these problems?
Through <Pale Blue Dot> that follows Carl Sagan's question, I slowly try to find out how far away from Earth the central element of the future is, a new perception of the earth and humanity's position in the universe.
