Media that transforms people. be aware
When we start arguing about the pros and cons of common media effects, it is the content that the media delivers that becomes a problem.
But what we overlook is that media content will become less important than the media itself in terms of the impact it has on our thoughts and actions. As a window into the world and ourselves, the media determines what we see and how we view it. Furthermore, excessive use of this medium changes the identity of individuals and society.
"The impact of technology doesn't happen at the level of opinions or concepts," McLuhan said. Rather, this influence "changes the way of perception steadily, without resistance."
Paying attention to media content may overlook the greater effect of media.
We are so deceived or stimulated by content that we are unaware of what is going on in our heads. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that the technology itself was not important. We tell ourselves that the only thing that matters is how we use technology. This shows that you are already in control of some sort of complacency.
McLuhan believed that every new medium changes people.
He says, "Our habitual responses to media, the idea that how they are used matters, is an ignorant and insensitive attitude toward machines."
Through his powerful remarks that media content is nothing more than a chunk of meat that thieves throw as bait to elude watchdogs of the mind, he makes us aware again of the aspects overlooked by modern people.
Computer screens wipe out our doubts with their sheer volume and convenience. This screen is also faithfully serving as a servant, so it's hard to notice that it's actually our master as well.
