Recognizing what has been given to me to reach excellence.
Recognizing what has been given to me to reach excellence.
Two transitions are required to prevent self-destruction and to be considerate of oneself.
The first is the problem of desire.
Taking care of yourself is a matter of how you control your desires. They often equate themselves with their desires. Since 'what I want to do is me', I think doing what I want to do and living is the way to be considerate of myself.
The wise say the life of a slave is a life in which you run like crazy to get what you want. This is because life is driven by 'things you want to do'.
The ancient sages teach us to be masters of our desires. The way to become the master of desire is not to do what you want at any time, but to be able to stop doing it at any time. This is because the power of the owner is not the 'power to achieve' but the 'power to quit'.
The second is a shift in perspective on excellence.
Excellence is not judged by the length of the breath, that is, by the limit, but by the art of dealing with it.
If my limit is 1, the ability of 5 is not given to me in the first place, so it is not something I can do, and this is a talent that has nothing to do with art.
Some people have an exceptionally long breath compared to others. These talents are 'given' regardless of one's efforts. It is a gift, a gift from heaven. Therefore, this talent cannot be developed or attained by human power.
It is pointless to compare my talents with those of others. These talents are to be used gratefully as gifts given to those who received them, those around them, or all of mankind, and the fruits should be shared.
Even if they are not the best, their talents are also given as a 'gift'. Therefore, the important thing is not to compare how richly each of us has received a gift from heaven, but how well each of us is using the gift we have received.
Not the given itself, but how well the given is utilized, and the degree of good use is the criterion of excellence.
What human beings can pursue, and what they must seek, is the excellence that an individual can attain.
In order to pursue your own excellence, you need to know the starting point of self-care and the length of your breath.
To know your limitations and take care of yourself, you need time to know what your 'self' is.
It can be a time of meeting with yourself and self-learning.
