A tightrope between commonality and difference, communication.


From family, work, school, to political parties and the nation, if you had to pick the most problematic word in Korean society, it would be 'communication'.


Why did this society place importance on 'communication'?


Most fundamentally, it can be considered that the existential aspect of human beings requires communication. Man can never see his face alone. For a human to see his face, he needs another being, a mirror that can reflect himself. In philosophy, the being who takes on the role of this mirror is called the Other.


An individual can see himself only through the other and can become himself only when he is contained in the vessel of the other. It's not about 'meeting other people, it's about 'the only way I become who I am when I meet others'. The whole process of seeing and feeling the other and making oneself through the other can be called communication.




The reason we need communication is that the other and I are not the same.


There is a 'difference' between the other and me as far as the distance is.


The distinction between me and the other as 'two' means that each 'one' that makes up the two is different from each other. The two are different because the distance between them is not zero. Here, they are different, and it is necessary to understand and explain each other because the distance between the two is not infinite. Since the distance between the two is neither zero nor infinity, we have to explain each other. Communication is about explaining each other like this.

Communication does not occur unless it is based on 'difference'. If we could know everything without talking, we would never communicate.


Communication should be based on both 'common things' and 'differences', which is a tightrope between the two.


Communication is the process of constantly making common things within each other's differences. Communication does not occur even if there is nothing in common, and communication does not occur even if there is no difference.
