Manage yourself, not your time.

 Manage yourself, not your time.

Self-management has evolved and developed in a fashion similar to many fields in which humans have worked.

The most important revolutionary stages in history, what Alvin Toffler called 'waves', led step by step to new and more important levels. If we look at social development, for example, the agricultural revolution followed the industrial revolution, followed by the information revolution again. This revolution made a great leap forward in the social and personal aspects.

In the field of time management, each generation is more advanced than the previous generation. In other words, each time-management generation has enabled us to better manage our own lives.

The first generation, or first wave, of time management was taking notes and using catalogues. In other words, it can be said that it is an attempt to recognize and manage various tasks that require a lot of time and energy by marking them.

The second generation of time management is calendars and appointment records. The second generation is to schedule future tasks and activities so that we can plan ahead.

The third generation of time management is the currently widely used time management method. The third generation added the concept of 'priority to the time management of the previous generation, clarified what was valuable and important, and added a new idea of comparing the benefits of each activity with these values taken into account.

Third-generation time management also focuses on goal setting. There are specific long-term, medium-term and short-term goals, towards which we invest time and energy while ensuring that they are aligned with our value standards. This includes day-to-day planning and specific plans for carrying out goals and activities that will bring you maximum benefit.

Although third-generation time management has made significant contributions, many are beginning to realize that 'efficient' scheduling and time control often backfires. Because valuing efficiency hinders the formation of good human relationships, fails to meet human needs, and prevents each of us from enjoying unconventional and natural moments.

As a result, many people feel that time management programs and time management managers limit themselves as well as constrain themselves too much. It was like Martin Luther's saying, 'It's like throwing away the baby you bathe with the bath water. As a result, many have abandoned third-generation time management techniques and returned to first and second generations in order to maintain good relationships, work voluntarily, and preserve their quality of life.

A new emergence here is the fourth generation of time management. The 4th generation thinks that the expression 'time management itself is wrong in the true sense. Because we have to manage ourselves, not our time. Satisfaction depends on expectations and realizations. But expectations soon lie within our circle of influence.

Therefore, fourth-generation time management emphasizes maintaining and promoting human relationships and achieving results rather than focusing on objects and time.

More emphasis is placed on the balance of production (golden eggs) / fertility (goose).

Are you forgetting your purpose for the sake of your goal?

Aren't you forgetting people for the sake of time?

We need to learn to manage ourselves, not our time.
