Analects Gongyajang, The Power of Introspection, Zigong.
Some people spoke well and made good money. He is a good speaker, saving the country as a diplomat, and earning money to be featured in 'scams'. He is to the point that by worldly standards no one has been more successful than him.
Such a person came under Confucius. There must have been some kind of thirst. You must have thought that life is not just about making a beautiful family, such as going to a top-notch university and getting a good job, eating well and living well.
His name is Zigong.
There are many conversations where Confucius points out an embarrassing mistake in Zigong's question.
"How am I?"
"You are a vessel."
"What kind of bowl is it?"
"It is a jade vessel to hold grain in the ritual."
There is a separate passage in the Analects that says 'A gentleman is not a vessel', which means that Zigong is not a gentleman.
Was he planning to shake off the smell of money on his body in the market? The teacher's strictness toward Zigong is so conspicuous that it is quite different from dealing with other students.
“I try not to do to others what I do not want others to do to me.”
"Saya, that's not something you can do."
“Who is better, you and Anhui?”
“How dare I dare compare Anhui with Anhui? Hearing one knows ten, but hearing one knows only two.”
"It will be worse than that. You and I will both be worse than him."
This is a scene where you can see Confucius' harsh teachings and Zigong's humanity.
Zigong's objective self-view stands out more than Confucius' disappointing answer.
Zigong's learning begins to develop from the 'power of reflection', which is thoroughly objectified and counted.
Zigong's personal development, as a 'good earning and well-spoken' worldly human, begins here with his eyes that can objectively reflect on himself.
The question of whether or not there is an eye for introspection seems trivial, but it is the difference between heaven and earth. Because So In-bae does not have an attitude of self-reflection when he sees good things in others, he finds out the bad points and criticizes them, and he brags about his achievements as excellent.
