You can feel from this delicate sense that Confucius was a true fashionista who could be polite while calling fashion.


Civilization or culture refers to the effort to carefully harmonize with the surroundings without falling into fashion while pursuing fashion.


Delicacy! This is the essence of civilization.


It is a 'gourmet' who eats delicious food. However, a gentleman's (gourmet) food preferences place more emphasis on savouring the harmony of ingredients and seasonings. The same goes for clothes. Finding a famous designer and wearing expensive clothes is the work of poor men. A real fashionista carefully observes their age, condition, and body shape, and wears clothes that exude a deep sense of style without surprising those around them. It is harmony, consideration, and depth rather than value. This is a component of fashion.

Through the way Confucius eats and dresses, we can get a glimpse of the civilized life he pursued.


Not eating anything and not wearing casual clothes, the detailed response of acting and choosing appropriately according to the situation.


Confucius in the East is not the only one who considers delicacy to be the essence of civilization. The process of fine-tuning is the hallmark of civilization, and it was well done in the West. In particular, the modern French philosopher Pascal emphasized in <Pangse> that the 'delicate spirit' is a characteristic of civilization and asserted that the expression of the detailed mind about things and thoughts is possible only through the humanistic spirit.

If you think about it, civilization is a world of delicacy and affection. The barbarism, which stands in opposition to civilization, is expressed in harshness and cruelty. Therefore, Confucius's dream of a 'world of rich customs' is a world of delicacy that is not harsh, and a world of affection that is not harsh and affectionate.


Such detail and refinement show that we dreamed of a world of subtle design, not just blunt and simple fabrics.


The civilized world that Confucius dreamed of is expressed in the meticulousness and consideration of hospitality, food, clothing, and shelter that constitutes our daily lives. In other words, it should be possible to discover that the civilization that Confucius dreamed of is based on delicate aesthetics in his stylish attire and the sensitivity of his eating habits.


Living well is not about expensive food and fresh air, but about the beauty that is created when you practice subtle aesthetics in your daily life. From becoming the master of one's life and seeing beauty in the little things around you, 'living well' is achieved.
