 The contemplation of life, not death, is the wisdom of a free man.

The Western philosophical tradition places death and anxiety at the centre. From Christian philosophy that denies the world to existentialism... Philosophy constantly emphasizes how empty human life is.


Man is a being occupied by death. Therefore, to forget death is ignorance and frivolity. - Heidegger


Humans are futile beings wandering between boredom and dissatisfaction with desires. - Schopenhauer


If death and anxiety, sadness and separation are existential human conditions, how can humans be happy?


Although the various efforts to avoid the fear of death can be rationally understood, the claim that the fear of death has been eliminated contradicts the reality of life.


Thoughts related to death form the centre of existential and concrete life. Man is the only animal he knows he's going to die, and he can't deny that the obsession with death is the driving force behind our culture.



We each have a great death within... A human being is old enough to die from birth. - Rilke



No matter how hard you try to avoid the thought of death, you cannot avoid it unconditionally according to the ontological principle. Then, since Spinoza's argument to think about life other than death is too justified, Heidegger's analysis of facing death can be more realistically sympathetic than Spinoza's wisdom.


Money, power, beauty, love... It is only meaningful in that it further extends human life, the existence of the temporality of finiteness towards death. Nevertheless, was Spinoza's emphasis on life not because he was unaware of the fear of death, but to present the idea that humans should aim for despite such existential limitations?


A person cannot only meditate on life, nor can he meditate only on death. Although he tries to be faithful to reality, he cannot escape the fear of death. If fear of death is a general human tendency, it is in human greatness to try to break free from such natural instincts.


All beautiful things are precious and difficult.
