Human beings are becoming irrelevant to the world.

Human beings are becoming irrelevant to the world.

Some argue that even if humans cannot compete with AI in the workplace, they will not become economically independent of society in the future because it is always necessary for consumers. However, it is by no means certain whether the future economy will regard humans as necessary even as consumers. This is because machines and computers will be able to play that role.

In fact, computers and algorithms are already working not only as producers but also as customers.

On the stock exchange, algorithms are becoming the most important buyers of bonds, stocks and commodities.

In the advertising business, the most important customer is an algorithm, not a person, that is Google's search algorithm. People now care more about the taste of Google's search algorithm than anyone's taste when designing web pages.

Algorithms are obviously unconscious. Unlike human consumers, they cannot enjoy what they buy, nor do they make purchase decisions based on their senses and emotions. However, the algorithm picks the target based on internal calculations and built-in preferences. These preferences will increasingly shape the world we live in.

Now, the world knows that if only the gaze of the algorithm can be caught, the gaze of the human will naturally follow.

New social and economic models must be developed to cope with the unprecedented technological and economic disruption of the 21st century. These models should follow the principle of protecting people rather than jobs. Principles that meet people's basic needs and protect their social status and self-esteem must be followed.

Various ideas are poured out for the development of new models. Related ideas say let's redefine 'work' by expanding the scope of human activities such as 'caring for children.

Active methods for the government to subsidize universal basic income or subsidize universal basic services are also being proposed.

It also proposes universal basic resources, i.e. basic support at the national level.

Universal basic assistance here means taking care of basic human needs.

But how to establish a subjective universal standard?

Whatever definition of 'basic human need' is followed, once you give it to anyone for free, people will take it for granted. And fierce social competition and political struggle over luxuries rather than basics is perhaps a natural procedure.

Human happiness depends more on subjective expectations than on objective conditions. But expectations are bound to adapt to conditions. This includes the conditions of others. As things improve, expectations rise, and as a result, even after conditions improve dramatically, they will remain dissatisfied as before.

Experiments with work in Israel as a way to live a satisfying life in the world may have been most successful.

About half of ultra-Orthodox Jewish men do not work here. They devote their lives to studying the Bible and performing religious ceremonies. The secret of their survival is because their wives work, but also because the government provides subsidies and free services so that they do not lack the basic necessities of life. This is probably 'universal basic support', which started even before the word universal support was coined.

They are poor and have no jobs. However, life satisfaction is higher than for any other sect of Israeli society. This is because of the deep meaning that can be found in Bible study and ceremonial performance, as well as the solidarity of community bonding.

As robots and AI push humans out of the job market, this fossil-like model of the past may become a model for the future. Of course, not everyone will become an ultra-Orthodox Jew and study the Talmud at Yeshiva. However, the search for meaning and community in everyone's life may go beyond the search for a job.

If you can combine a strong community and the pursuit of a meaningful life with a universal economic safety net, perhaps taking jobs away from algorithms is actually a blessing.

But an even scarier scenario is losing control of your life.

Aside from the risk of mass unemployment, what humans are even more concerned about is the transfer of human authority to algorithms. Algorithms may destroy human beliefs about libertarian stories and pave the way for the rise of digital dictatorships.
